With support from the Maastricht Volt-Council group Romy Frijters will start working as city lead for Volt in Maastricht effective immediately.
On Friday, the final results of the Lower House elections were announced. With 444 votes in the municipality of Maastricht and over 7000 votes in total, Romy looks back on the campaign period with pride. Not only the number of votes, but especially the enthusiasm of the people who have supported her lately, motivates her to further expand Volt as a movement, to professionalize it and to put it even better on the map in South Limburg.

"Volt was founded in response to the nationalist, populist and far-right winds blowing across our continent. After this election result, it is important to recognize that our European story has not yet sufficiently convinced the inhabitants of our border region. Especially here in Limburg, there are still big steps to take, and they start with further building our movement. That is what I am now going to work even harder for."
Romy says she wants to be an example for Limburgers interested in politics. "I want to share the experience and knowledge I have gained with Volt members who have political ambitions. In Cologne, Volt has started a very successful academy. A number of participants are now even on the German candidate list for the European elections in 2024. I am going to implement that best practice here in Maastricht. I can use my experience in setting up training programs nicely for that."
As city lead, Romy will mainly focus on expanding and further professionalizing the movement in Maastricht. She is the point of contact for anyone who wants to get in touch with Volt Maastricht, makes sure that every member who wants to make an active contribution is enabled to do so, and helps members to achieve their political ambition.
"The urgency to make your voice heard structurally has never been more palpable. After this election result, I therefore call on everyone to become politically active. Even if Volt is not your party, join the party that best matches your ideals."
